The Empire State Association of Minority Contractors
The specific and primary purpose of this 501c-3 not for profit corporation is to initiate, encourage and assist in the formation of an educational institute for construction contractors, their staff and their craftsmen as well as to initiate and operate training programs for persons desiring employment and procurement opportunities in the building trades including development opportunities for its members. As a training unit using the National Center for Construction Education and Research curriculum and certified instructors, ESAMC is able to provide apprenticeship and construction craft training in a variety of craft construction fields.
Currently, we have emphasized the Journeyman Craft Laborer Program, as it not only provides the trainee with a multitude of specific skills such as (concrete) and transit laser leveling but it also provides a skill set that will allow him / her to operate forklifts (forklift certifications), act as a flagger on highway projects (flagger training) along with performing duties as a construction laborer on any construction or heavy highway project. All within a 12 week time period. Upon graduation, the trainee’s are presented certifications in flagger training, forklift operation, transit and laser leveling and Construction Journeyman Laborer Certifications through the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
ESAMC prides itself with its close working relationships with our friends in government and non profits. We appreciate the investment of their time and attention to supporting our organization. See endorsement letters.
Educational institutions such as SUNY EOC, Syracuse University and Onondaga Community College who will host our first Construction Essentials curriculum during their fall semester of 2014 have offered their classrooms and finances that helps extend our reach into the Central New York community. Our partnerships has also included private construction companies such as Huber Breuer Companies Inc and in the area of not for profits, we have engaged the Syracuse Community Health Center as a NAMC sponsor and combined with Center State Inc to graduate a class of construction ready individuals (90 hours of Construction Essentials training) during June of 2014.
Job placement is a critical component to any training program and although placement is not guaranteed, ESAMC with the assistance of our partners have been able to place the majority of our graduates into the labor market with salaries above the minimum wage and in some cases salaries have reached the prevailing wage.
